But we do know that color draws color. The red color of the ruby and carnelian, and their unique Hebrew name (which translates as ‘red’) draw the pregnancy, since everything related to birth is red (no further explanation necessary).
The tribe Reuben is associated with the ruby, since the mandrakes that he picked for his mother Leah had red berries. With G-d’s help, chewing and swallowing this plant is often followed by pregnancy.
There are many amulets for pregnancy. One amulet is made of pure silver and shaped like a fish. The amulet features the Hebrew letters הא on one side and a ה on the other. This alludes to the fact that every birth is embedded in the letter ה.
When Abram and Sarai prayed for a child, Hashem answered by changing their names. Abram’s name was changed to Abraham (אברם to אברהם). Sarai’s name was changed to Sarah (שרי to שרה). Both of these changes were accomplished by adding the Hebrew letter ה to their names. According to the teachings of R’ Nachman of Breslov, this was the ה (pronounced ‘hay’) of birth.
There are many people whose names do not include the ה. These people, and even those with names with the ה, should wear a fish engraved with the ה. Fish swim in the depths of the sea where the evil eye does not have power. The fish signifies the pregnancy’s circumvention of the evil eye. In addition, a pregnancy should not be discussed or announced until its third month, when it is stronger.

The pregnancy amulet is a unique kit with a ruby stone, carnelian, ‘even tekuma’ and a magnet that draws and strengthens the pregnancy. It hangs on a silver chain because silver is kabalistically associated with mercy, in contrast to gold which signifies judgment.
